Keratoconus With Severe Acute Hydrops Treated With SF6 Gas

Project Description : A 12-year-old girl with a two-year history of gradual visual decline bilaterally presented with acute vision loss in her left eye. She was subsequently diagnosed with keratoconus complicated by acute hydrops. Despite initial treatment with hyperosmotics, cycloplegics, and corticosteroids, the hydrops and corneal ectasia continued to progress. Over the ensuing few weeks, the condition deteriorated to the point where the patient was unable to close her eye, placing her at high risk for corneal ulceration and perforation. To prevent corneal rupture, a 20% SF6 gas bubble was injected to fill 60% of the patient’s anterior chamber. Within one week, the patient responded favorably to treatment,
