Project Description : Our research is aimed at a question posed by local fire and rescue emergency responders. While the dangers of inhaling smoke from fires is well understood in the context of hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide inhalation, further research should be considered for determining the likelihoods and effects of inhaling hydrogen cyanide from structural fires. Our portion of the research aims to see what components of residential house fires contribute most to the risk of hydrogen cyanide inhalation and what environmental factors such as heat and oxygen content maximize and minimize that risk.
